Empire State of Mind

If you’ve been following me on Instagram you know I just spent 18 hours in NYC. Phew, I can’t believe I survived!

After landing back in DC, my childhood home, and catching up with the few remaining friends I had in the area, I decided to make a day trip up to the city that never sleeps to catch up with some good friends and family. Like the city, it was nonstop craziness from the time I caught the train at 4:45am in DC until I got back home at 10am the next day…talk about whirlwind!

The sunrise in DC was amazing.

After meeting up for a coffee with my cousin Michael Doyle, who shows his first collection at Fashion Week on Friday (get comfortable with the name, it’ll be hot very, very soon, mark my words- you’re welcome for the introduction!) I got to wander the city a bit. Not living in the city was one of the best choices I ever made, because now I can really enjoy it from the eyes of a street-wise tourist. I got to see lots of funny little things about. Here are some of the highlights:

Arrived to a pretty rainy day in the city- oh well, I’m not sugar, not going to melt!
Luckily I had an umbrella, which is more than some people can say!

I walked around a rain-soaked Gramercy, my favorite neighborhood in the city, for several hours- until these careful feet became very tired (and soggy)!

After walking around for a bit I met up with my good friends Dave, Nicole and Meri to hit the highlights of NYC. First on the list was Birreira at Eataly, which has a great rooftop area and cheap Peroni.

Next was Pastis, my favorite restaurant in NYC. They have killer wine and cocktails, but I always go for the moules frites and scallops. This is why I can’t not eat seafood. Seriously.

We finished off the night at Little Branch, a subterranean, Prohibition era-style bar that makes the BEST fizzes in all of Manhattan if not the world. This is the only surviving picture of the night at that point…

…but hopefully you can get the idea. Much fun was fun was had!

NYC, East Coast, I’ll miss you!

I know what ya mean about being able to enjoy NYC more as a tourist than a resident! Looks like you had fun. I'm jealous you got to eat at Pastis I've always wanted to try it…
