Pippin Hill Winery, Charlottesville

One of the traditions my mom and I have when I come home to visit is to drive about partway through the state to Pippin Hill Farm and Vineyard, a small, new winery near Charlottesville. Not only is the drive absolutely breathtaking as you drive out of the city and into the mountains, the food and wine there are to. die. for.

It’s quite the adventure to drive out to Pippin Hill, because Virginia is gorgeous. Really, there is no other state I can imagine being from. There are mountains, ocean, city, country…not to mention so much history. And wine country with my amazing Mom!

Mom and I did a three-course lunch (woof!) and paired each course with a wine.

First up was a cheese board with the best fig jam I’ve ever had. We had the famous Pippin Hill White Reserve, which really set apart the flavors in the cheeses we had. But even with the delicious spread, the view was the best part of the first course.

Between courses Mom got a little obsessed with making the table picture perfect for blogging pictures. I appreciate the help because she’s much better at the aesthetic side of all of this- I’m just a writer!
Look at this table. She could seriously work for BH&G or something. Admittedly, the view helps her out quite a bit.

For our second course, I had a green been salad with Chardonnay and my mom had shrimp escabeche with Chardonnay Reserve. We had to switch plates halfway through to get the most of both dishes, and the most of both wine pairings.

To finish it all off, we had red velvet cupcakes with merlot. I may have also snuck in a glass of Blanc de Blanc, my favorite Pippin Hill wine.

It was a great way to spend my second to last day in the states for a while!
