Brazil: Part 2

The best thing about my experience in Brazil is that everyone is so warm and friendly. Everyone I’ve met has been nothing but excited to help me (a lot) with my Portuguese, talk to me in English when my Portuguese fails (after the first word) and show me their home. And what a truly spectacular place to call home, indeed!

For the first few days here, I must admit I have been a bit of a beach bum and night owl. But, to my defense, no decent nightlife in Brazil starts until about midnight- so there’s tons of other things to fit into the day- if you can get up after a late night, that is!

Most days recently have begun with a walk along the beach. Since living in Denver, I’ve let the mountains grow on me, despite always having been a pretty big beach gal as a kid. Here in Rio, I get both!

I’ve also been able to try local favorites, including Acai, a fruit mixed with banana. Throw in some granola and you have a cold, fruity, frosty-like treat.

One of my favorite activities was walking around Copacabana one day. The views of the beach and the city were positively stunning. Looking back at these pictures, I feel better, because thinking back, I wonder if I’ve made up the trip and everything I’ve seen in my head, it’s been so great!

Speaking of great, I’ve made some great Brazilian friends, who have not only shown me their favorite local haunts, but suffered some pretty touristy spots with me, too, like the Confeitaria Columbo, a Brazilian institution with the best milkshakes ever. And a great view to boot.

If beach-ing during the day isn’t your thing, though, never fear! Rio has some pretty fun nightlife if you can stand to stay awake until the sun comes up.
