Iceland: Part 2

Our second full day in Iceland was dominated by a trip to the Blue Lagoon, a geothermally-heated collection of pools about 45 minutes south of Reykjavik. The warmth was welcome since we were thrown into winter temps after the end of summer in the USA!

Located in the middle of a lava field, it was really a strange juxtaposition to be in the water while staring at lava rocks.

HBL and I were joined by our friends who we haven’t seen for over a year- so our trip turned into not only a long overdue reunion but also very grown up couples holiday. I still can’t believe I’m old enough to go on vacations with friends and their significant others!

At the lagoon, we got the VIP treatment- meaning wine and massages while basking in the hot water for four hours. By the time we were done, we were like little prunes, all of us!

After the lagoon, we took a mini road trip to the Fljotstunga Traveler’s Farm, a collection of cabins in the north of Iceland. We passed about two cars on our two hour drive once we got out of the city, but even though it was extremely remote- probably the most “middle of nowhere” I’ve ever been, it was beautiful and there was surprisingly a lot to do- but I’ll leave that for another post so you can enjoy the pictures of our drive there.

Helping HBL co-pilot. Look over my shoulder at the view!
Roadtrip silliness.

Rainbows are pretty ubiquitous in Iceland- but as often as you see them, they never get old.

A view of the traveler’s farm as we drove up after a long day soaking. More on the farm tomorrow!
