Gooey Delicious Sticky Buns

When I was a little girl, I used to have quite a vivid imagination.

Like, really vivid.

If
I wasn’t taping down light switches, carrying around a kerosene lantern
and making my sisters wake up at 5am to churn butter in a decorative
butter churner my mother bought in Lancaster, PA (yes, you guessed it: I
made us pretend to be Amish), I was taping the names of my favorite
kingdoms in Middle Earth to our bedroom doors for my Lord of the
Rings-themed bed and breakfast. (Actually, now that I’m older, I really
do think this would be an amazing idea. Who wouldn’t want to stay in an
earth-toned Rohan themed room, or the ornately appointed Lothlorien
suite?!)

I wish I was making this up.

Anyway,
instead of seeking therapy, which would probably have been a valid
option, my amused and overly indulgent family kind of egged me on. In
fact, my favorite Christmas present of all time was a one-night stay at a
vintage Vermont B&B, the Crystal Palace. My Aunt Catherine wanted
to give me a taste of what it was like to really be in a B&B, and it
helped that it was classically decorated since I was going through a
phase where I pretended to be from like 1904.

While
I’ve left the days of crazy imaginations behind me (sort of), one thing
that stuck is the AMAZING breakfast the B&B owners made, which,
without further stories of my crazy childhood, I’ll share.

Crystal Palace Sticky Buns

You’ll need:

1 tube Pillsbury Croissants
1/2 c. butter, softened
1/2 tbsp. sugar
1 tbsp. cinnamon
1 tbsp. brown sugar
1/4 c. butter, melted
1/2 c. chopped walnuts (optional)
Preheat that oven to 375 F

To make them…

1. Unroll the tube of croissants, keeping the triangles in tact like so.

 2. Spread butter liberally over the dough.
 3. Sprinkle butter-covered dough with sugar and brown sugar evenly.

 4. Spread the sugar and brown sugar so you have a nice, even mixture.

 5. In a small bowl, melt the 1/4 c. of butter. Mix in the brown sugar.

6. Pour the butter/brown sugar mixture in a well greased 12-cup cupcake pan. It might seem a little soupy, but roll with it!

7. Add a few walnuts to each cupcake divot if you’d like. If not, just add to the dough!
8. Cut the dough in half; you’ll have two squares of even size.

 8. Roll the dough.

 9. Cut each roll into six more or less even chunks. You can see I struggled with this slightly.

 10. Pop in the oven on 375 degrees for 10 minutes.

Et voila, the best sticky buns EVER. Seriously, ever.

Probably beats the heck out of the lembas I’d have to serve at my LOTR themed B&B, hmmmm?
