Eight Tunes for Your Winter Travel Playlist

February seems extraordinarily difficult to slog through sometimes. I don’t know about you, but regardless of what I’m doing, music tends to make me daydream a bit, which helps pass the time and keep me entertained, pumped and (sometimes) productive. Here’s what’s keeping me going this month:

I just love the name of this band. Rizzle Kicks. It should be the name of a chocolate
bar with pop rocks in the middle. The song itself is great for a pick me up or
random dance fest.

If you like the layered, chilled electronic vibes of Washed Out, but you’re sick of
hearing it after watching reruns of Portlandia every night (because, for
instance, you can’t go anywhere due to a tube strike), give this tune by Gypsy &
The Cat a go.

Everyone in my family is musically inclined except me. Therefore, I content myself with singing the female part
in any Belle and Sebastian song, particularly this one.

When I need something folksy, but Crosby, Stills and Nash is too
morose or Springsteen’s harmonica too chipper, I go for a more mellow tune from the John
Butler Trio.

I discovered this gem after watching Whateverest. The short film describes how Terje made this song after watching a Norwegian hair dresser/drug maker on YouTube. Sound weird? It’s pretty good, actually, and its only 15 minutes or so. Also, it’s like having a really good wine and cheese pairing. You see how one influenced the other to make both just that much better.

I’ve been getting into the Bridge, a Swedish/Danish crime drama that is just so good. The theme song is perfect for the show, its title and February weather: steely, mellow and dripping with minor chords.

This song belongs in my top five favorite songs ever ever ever so it just belongs on this list as a default measure.

Shout out to Colorado and all my Denver friends! I miss y’all! If you would like to send me a biscuit
cinnamon roll from the DBC, that’d be awesome, but until that day the Lumineers will have to suffice as my link to all things Wild West.

Whether you’re walking, working or just hanging out, these tunes will definitely help you pass the time and maybe and be productive. Any new music suggestions are very welcome!
