Rocky Mountain Oyster Beer

Today was a cloudy, snowy day. Yes, I’m talking about 1st May 2013. Tragic. To try and forget that I’m living in a real life igloo when most people are out sunning themselves, I met my friend Amanda at the Wynkoop Brewery. As we sat talking about everything from wedding planning to Lena Dunham, it occurred to me: American beer has a REALLY bum rap. This is especially true when it comes to Colorado breweries. There are SO many good microbrews here, and they don’t get enough credit! Then and there I declared that I was going to try every Denver brewery and blog about it; the public deserves to be well informed when it comes to American beer!

The Wynkoop is located in downtown Denver, or LoDo as it is called, in an old factory building. I loved looking at the old architecture, as I often do in downtown.

We started with an Cowboy Milk Stout, a darker beer, and a Rail Yard Ale, my personal favorite, a very light, flavorful beer.

After
a few beers we even grew the balls to try a beer infused with rocky
mountain oysters. Don’t know what that is? Re-read the last sentence and
soon it will all be clear.

It was actually really good, don’t let the face fool you- just strange getting over the idea of it all.

Turns out it is pretty world famous and they can’t keep it in stock, so I’m glad we got to try a bit of it.
The beer was so good we had to call the boys to join us after a while! Sadly, they didn’t have the balls to try the rocky mountain oyster beer like we girls did.

 Cheers!

As usual, great collection of photos.

I guess I will have to visit this beer store, it seems like a cool place.
